“You’re happy living your life and suddenly something can happen that can change everything forever.  Did anyone expect it? (Audience says no.) That’s why I think it is so brilliant. It’s that it’s kind of not the direction the series was going in so it’s this thing; it’s right in the middle of the episode and it completely changes everything. So I think, in terms of the dramatic storytelling it’s brilliant.

And also it’s interesting: We’re filming now so where it’s left Clara and how it’s going to bring her and the Doctor together and it’s really interesting where it will take them next. I think it’s a direction that no-one was expecting which is always a good thing.”
