- the top moment is definitely the proposal in “last christmas.” after a whole season of miscommunication and sacrificing their own happiness for each other, and then a whole episode where the stakes are that high and we keep getting fake-out possible endings, it is such a relief to see them together and so wondrously happy with each other. his hands clasped in front of him, then reaching for her, the kiss, the frantic scurry to the TARDIS!!!!! HELP!!!!!!
- “do you think i care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference?” // “i don’t deserve a friend like you.” “i’m terribly sorry, clara, but i’m exactly what you deserve.” they do this thing constantly where they admit how much they care about one another while being completely self-deprecating, like they don’t believe they’re good enough, or that the very fact that they depend so completely on each other is a weakness they need to break, and it’s just so sad and complex and aching. they get to a point where they know they’re both good and better with each other, but the season is about them struggling to accept the flaws in themselves and each other.
- “i’m not your boyfriend.” // “just see me.” i love that whole bit, with eleven in the middle. they both need each other but it’s really hard for them to say.
- the end of “mummy on the orient express,” when he’s trying to explain that it might be easier if she thinks of him as heartless (;_;) and he does that fake-laugh about letting everyone else on the train die but her (trying to make her laugh, burying a confession in the lie, obviously he would save everyone he possibly could but clara is THE most important person in the universe to him), and then they go into the TARDIS and she says “i love you” and then they’re both smiling and working the TARDIS console at the same tiiiiiiiiime, they’re soulmates
- her seeing the young doctor on gallifrey and then immediately rushing to hug him on the TARDIS because she’s seen who he is, who he always is, how fear will always drive him, just like it drives her, and i think she decides that moment never to leave him, even if she doesn’t quite realize until later that she means it. i also think clara’s a companion who deserved to see the doctor as a child, because she’s already inhabited his timestream in other ways, and he hers, so it feels complete and symmetrical. 🙂
