1. When I was a kid, I went through a phase where I wanted to do Broadway. My local community theater had auditions for Bye Bye Birdie, and @momcast wouldn’t let me go! She said I was too young and needed to focus on school. (I was like 7.) She said I was free to try to be famous when I turned 18, and drove my ass to the library instead. I was lowkey mad for like ten years.
2. I once sang Love Shack by the B-52s karaoke at around 3am local time, in a hotel bar in Tokyo, with former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. I had never met him before, and haven’t since. He does a mean Fred Schneider. He also had two dudes with him in black suits and indoor sunglasses, just chilling on the couch drinking zero sake, so when he told me to hurry up and bring my jukebox money, I thought, “yes sir.” He gave me a high-five when the song was over.
3. When the Red Sox broke the curse of the Bambino and won the World Series in 2004, I had driven up from New York for the game “just in case.” I was on a business trip, and planned my flight back out of Logan so I could be there. The game wasn’t even in Boston, but everyone was outside just standing on the streets and hugging each other. We swept the Cardinals, and some people were saying they hoped we didn’t win so we could win at home. Other people were threatening to slap those people if they spoke any additional cursed words such as those. When we won, EVERYONE came outside, and we drank and danced and sang and cried in the street. One of my favorite memories, and worth every penny of that rental car.
