Oh my god, something’s wrong with Clara and I’m not sure if I’m ready to find out what it is. I mean, the Doctor we know would jump with joy after being reunited with her. Especially if he thought she was dead. Her name alone makes him crack the biggest smile. Yet, in this scene, they both have different ideas about how long she was gone. And the Doctor can’t even look at her. After this brief exchange he gives her a painfully awkward smile and he walks away. What did she do? Or what did he do? Were her memories wiped as well? Did something happen after the flash that we didn’t get to see? Can we even be sure that she’s awake? Or worse, is that even really her? I am not ready.

Oh god I was thinking too that he might have come from her future where she is dead. We’ve speculated that he might have done this other times this season but here it seems the most painfully likely. The look he gives her in that last gif. He knows something. And it’s not a good something because when is it ever? And yes every other time they’ve been reunited he’s embraced or at least hovered near here. But this time he almost can’t wait to get away. It hits me straight in the heart.

I am now desperately afraid that he’s cheating. This explanation fits psychologically and with the clues we’ve been given so far this series. I bet we won’t know until the very last episode, though. And it’s going to hurt no matter how it turns out.

If she has already died, and that’s feeling more and more likely (even if it does get subverted which, y’know, I hope so), I don’t think it was a case of him going back and picking her up and deliberately cheating his way out of it.  Go back to The Magician’s Apprentice and get a good look at his face when he hears her up in the stands.  Go back to that first time he sees her, gawking like he’s just seen a ghost.  The way “When do I not see you?” rushes out in relief.  The way he has to hide his face when she jokes “Which one of us is dying?” because there’s no way he can hide that.

Hell, the simple fact that he sent his will to Missy instead of Clara – you cannot convince me he wouldn’t have sent it to her if he thought she was still alive.

Even the way he reacts to her being cornered by the daleks at the end of the first episode, it’s like there’s a part of him that knows she can’t die right then, but at the same time he can’t even bear the thought of watching it happen again – and god, how many times has he watched her die already?

There’s just a hell of a lot of nuances in this season, and it’s all in Capaldi’s face.  Whatever is going to happen to Clara has already happened for the Doctor, I’m sure of it.
