Top 5 ships you’ll go down with no matter what

antennapedia:

@thatexactleaf tagged me! Top 5 otps, eh? I don’t have any gifs for most of them. They need gifs! The funny thing is that I tend to be very loyal and slow-moving with my ships. I hold onto them for years. I might multiship a character I love a love

  1. Twelve/Clara. Clara Clara Clara Clara. These two lured me out of fandom retirement and got me writing again after years away. This ship will sail into legend as far as I’m concerned. Long may it banter and hold hands and run headlong down corridors together!
  2. Buffy/Giles. BtVS. The ship that got me writing in the first place! I don’t know why these two, because while the canon gave us an intense relationship, he was at his most distant her “rakish uncle”. (If you want to see what a paternal relationship that is still shippy looks like, yo, look here, not at Twelve/Clara wtf.)
  3. Spock/McCoy, original Trek flavor. This is the ship of my baby fannish heart. McCoy needled him, but it was out of love. Yeah, yeah, I know, K/S put the slash in dudeslash, and it’s not like I don’t see that, it’s just that McCoy is the character in Trek I love best.
  4. Holmes/Watson, ACD book variation, and when I imagine them, I imagine Jeremy Brett and David Burke in the roles. When I was a kid I read all of ACD in a huge omnibus edition that I still have, and oh, these two. I still remember “The Three Garridebs” where Watson gets shot and Holmes gets all emotional. (I’m pretty sure that’s the one. Must now look it up. Heh.) I read that bit over and over. This is where fanwriters come from, I swear.
  5. Soames Forsyte/Irene Heron, original 1967 BBC Forsyte Saga flavor, though I have also practically memorized the books. I am a fandom of one here, I admit it, and I also admit that Soames is my problematic woobie because the whole point is that Irene never loved him back, but oh how he suffered.

Too important not to mention:

  • Giles/Ethan. Semi-canonical. The hints of the backstory! Friends, you have no idea how little we sometimes have to build our ships with. This keel was flown on a beating, a pistol-whipping, and a drunken night. 4 episodes and that was all we got. Get off my lawn.
  • Seven/Ace. She lived out her life with him on the TARDIS, I swear to you this is how it happened. Four/Romana. Ten/Rose. Eleven/River. That complicated multi-faceted man has loved with every bit of both hearts over and over in my head. (Why I can’t really ship Twelve/River very much: she belongs with Eleven in my heart.)
  • Peter Wimsey/Harriet Vane. Yes, she’s a self-insert. Yes, Gaudy Night is a mawkish mess that I can’t read without throwing the book at the wall. (Unpopular opinions R us!) Fuck it, it’s so awesome that they finally get together.

Tagging! Dammit, I want to hear about all your OTPs. @whifferdills your OTPs are bound to be surprising. @kronoskingofthemonkeypeople@nehswritesstuffs@longjackets@my-nerd-empire tell me all about your OTPS pls!

Can I just say, I thought I was theonly one who shipped Ace/Seven? I believed she stayed with him as well!
