Beta Appreciation Day

rowofstars:

I’m so happy Beta Appreciation Day is a thing now because it is only through the hard work, tireless listening to my whining, detailed feedback, and amazing friendship of these three ladies that anything I write is even possible. I love all of you so much. You all bless my writing and my life.

@impossiblewolves – Mary Mary Mary. We’ve been together since the LJ days, and she has been my #1 cheerleader from the day we became friends. She’s honest about what works and what doesn’t, and somehow manages to spot all the stupid errors I make. Though she doesn’t read my Rumbelle stuff, I still value her opinion on basically everything. She’s the reason I’m on LJ, and the reason that, even though I took a long break from DW fandom, I still kept writing by playing in her original fic sandboxes. That experience let me challenge myself in ways I hadn’t before. Sometimes we get going on an idea and just sending ideas and things back and forth, almost like we’re roleplaying. Occasionally it’s crack, but a lot of the time it works, and it helps me see the whole picture. I don’t know that I’d be half the writer I am without her.

@thatexactleaf – Oh my stars and hearts. My sister from another mister, Michelle, has stuck with me through a lot, including 3 or 4 fandoms. Like Mary, she has been a sounding board for ideas for a while, and in this past year started betaing my Rumbelle fics (in addition to Whouffaldi), even though it’s not even her fandom. She hunts down grammar errors and finds all my dumb mistakes and is always super timely so you guys never have to wait long once I’ve finally finished something. She’s so encouraging and positive, even when I’m feeling down, always seeing the silver lining and empathizing.

@thescholarlystrumpet – You guys. Every damn thing I’ve come up with since July is basically her fault in some way. 😉 Without her I don’t know that any of the Rumbelle stuff I’ve written would be half as good or ever posted. She is the greatest at just letting me get everything off my chest and then telling me what I need to hear (not just what I want to hear). She’s tough on me when I need it, but still gives me the feedback to get going with fixing things, and the encouragement to finish. She is a gem of a person and a fantastic talent.

Anyone who likes my writing should thank these ladies for what they do for me and for my writing. And thank you to standbyyourmantis for creating this day.

There is a beta appreciation day? That is absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much for this. I love that you have such a great circle of betas that each bring something unique to the table. Where would we be without our betas and our friends to sound off on. Love you!
