Is there a modern AU you’ve always wanted to see? And/or make a manip or gifset of?

I wouldn’t say I’ve always wanted to see it, but I rewatched the movie recently and… have y’all considered… a Penelope!AU?

Being the late Galen Erso‘s daughter Jyn never had an easy or normal life. Left with only her father after her mother‘s gruesome death, she soon had to learn that she needed to fight to stay alive in this world. With her father being part of shady businesses, she grew up constantly having to look after herself. After her father being murdered before her eyes, she needs to disappear. Not only from the criminals who’ve killed her father but also from everyone else knowing her.

Saw Gerrera, an old friend of the family, takes her in and hides her from the world.

Her name is cursed. Even her face is, sometimes.

According to Saw, she needs two things: a new name and protection. And he has two ways of making this happen: thorough combat training and finding her a rich and influential man.

For a while she plays along, meeting guys behind glass walls to protect her identity, getting to know them and realising that not one of them‘s really interested in her — because as soon as they learn her true identity, they run faster than Usain Bolt the 100 meters.

Until she meets Cassian Andor — or rather his alias, Joreth. Cassian‘s been hired to find Jyn Erso. The journalist he‘s working for still has a personal vendetta with Saw and the Erso family.

Joreth has it all — the money, the leverage, the name. And he’s got charisma and a really nice smile.

Realising he can’t give her the one thing she so strongly desires, he leaves, breaking her heart and his own in the process. While he tries to get back into his own unimportant life as a private eye, Jyn finally gathers the courage to run away.

Out on her own she learns what‘s really important in life. It‘s not the power of the curse, it’s the power you give the curse.
