First of the Smol Adventures

Context: Jyn and Cassian have for some reason been changed into their eight year old selves and the rest of the RO crew have to take care of them until they can figure out how to change them back.

Cassian wordlessly followed K-2SO into the captain’s quarters, because somehow when he grew up he became a captain and friends with the imposing Imperial droid. It was a nice room with a good bed and warm blankets the color of sand. There was a sleek drawer full of clothes too big for him now, a desk with a data pad that hadn’t cracked, and a charging station for the droid to step into. Cassian meandered around in his room, stuffed Ewok firm in his grasp, when he found his own private ‘fresher.

“This is my own room?” he asked.

“I recharge here, so technically you would still be sharing a room.”

“But I don’t have to share the bed?” he said, the first flicker of joy he felt throughout this entire adventure. He loved Mami and Abuelita, but it would be nice to not have to share the only bed with them for once.

“No, you don’t.”

He hopped in the bed and stretched out as far as he could, his hands and toes only touching the cold durasteel wall. K-2SO wished him good night as he powered down, shutting off the cold white overhead light with him. Cassian snuggled deep under the covers, his face in the damp fur of the Ewok.

He remembered the first night Papi left for Carida and the large, cold space he left behind for Cassian to try and fill when he curled into his mother’s side. She had teased him them about keeping it warm for him, but the next morning they learned that he wasn’t coming back, and the bed had always been too big since then…if there was a bed anymore and that Mami and Abuelita would be there to help him keep it warm, but the earthquake had brought down so many homes, and he thought he was going to be crushed too until he woke up next to Jyn in this strange ship with these strange people that called him captain.

He threw off the covers and rolled out of bed, because he couldn’t sleep in the bed all alone. K-2SO remained still, but Cassian didn’t like the way his lightless oculars stared down at him, so he threw one of the blankets over his head before sneaking out.
