I can’t get over the fact that this one episode, written by a first-time writer for the show, managed to actually give us an explanation for everything the revival has thrown at us with respect to the Mulder/Scully dynamic.

Their separation didn’t make any goddamn sense the way it was presented in MS1. Now? Totally. It was never Mulder who was lost. It was Scully. Scully is the one who couldn’t point towards north, because she was too haunted by the choices she made alone. Scully is the one who fled, the one who gave up.

Mulder started off bitter and broken in season 10 because Scully fled. Scully didn’t flee because he was depressed.

Mulder? That man has made his choice. He points north because he believes in Scully. He is standing right there, listening. Waiting. Waiting for Scully. She’s his miracle.
