Good evening, dear starbird!

I already answered no 6, here!  And here’s a copy:

6: how do you get through writers block?

Eurgh.  Sadly the first thing I do when I’m blocked is to groan, grumble and mentally beat up on myself.

Once I’ve managed to get past that horrible stage, my main trick is to find something, anythinganything at all – that I do
want to write, and do some work on that.  Current WiP giving me
trouble?  Try a one-shot with a totally different tone and a fresh new
storyline.  Current chapter feels stuck?  Try jumping ahead to the
middle of the next scene – either as a jump-cut, or wih the intention of
going back later to fill in the gap.

Another option is to
scrap what I’ve got altogether and redo it completely.  Brutal, but it
really clears the mind.  Changing pov character is another trick that
can work.

With difficult scenes, I sometimes enact the dialogue
(in private, I hasten to add!); I literally stand up and “play” all the
characters, and talk through the things they need to say to one
another.  Even without going that far, just writing the dialogue alone
can really help get the story moving, and heading where it needs to go
again.

Also, take a walk in the fresh air, and then have a cup of tea and a snack.  Really helps so much!

If
the block goes on long-term (as in, weeks or months)? Sweat it out, and
try to find other creative things to do in the meantime.  Baking,
drawing, knitting and sewing and crochet, taking care not to miss my
pottery class, it all helps.  Doing sudokus helps too, oddly enough.

And
I remind myself gently that the writers’ block will end, eventually.
Just like the sun will rise again.  It always has done, so far.

Thank you for asking!

Ims, this is utterly fantastic advice! Saving this for reference when I need it!

EVERYONE should read this post!!!
