jynappreciationsquad:

Summary: In the aftermath of her rescue from Scarif, Jyn finds herself at the mercy of the rebellion bureaucracy. “This is stupid.”

For the third time in as many minutes, Cassian sighs. “Like I said, this is just a formality.”

“It’s a stupid formality.”

“I’m sure the department appreciates your input.”

“I mean… come on,” Jyn says. “You giving me hand-to-hand training?”

They’ve been standing on the mat like this, wrists wrapped and warmed up, for almost ten minutes, and Jyn plans to drag this out as long as she possibly can. Mostly because she can tell it’s getting under Cassian’s skin. She’s getting better at reading him, although it’s still easiest when he’s irritated. She’s taken to messing with him, hopes he understands it’s (mostly) just for fun. She thinks (hopes) things are getting lighter between them, especially since she assured him she wouldn’t leave the Alliance.

Cassian adjusts his wrist wraps and steps forward. “Don’t think of it like training, think of it as… a certification.”

“All right.” She steps forward as well, swinging her arms to loosen her shoulders again. “Just don’t go easy on me, Andor.”

“I would ask the same of you.” To her surprise, one corner of his mouth quirks up, and his eyes seem to burn into her skin.

Jyn feels a flush creeping up her neck, and becomes aware of her bare shoulders and tight workout pants. “Okay, let’s do this.”
