To Jyn’s mild surprise, Lord Burin and his wife meet them on the steps of their villa. Burin has an enormous smile on his face and immediately embraces Cassian.
“Aach,” he says. “It’s been too long.”
“It has.”
They separate, although Burin keeps his hands on Cassian’s shoulders. “I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard you’d accepted my invitation. They work you too hard on Chandrila, my friend.”
“I was in the area,” Cassian says, stepping away. “And I had to introduce you to my wife.”
For the slightest moment, Jyn thinks she sees Burin’s face fall before the smile comes back and he extends a pale hand towards her.
“Myri,” she says. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Come in, come in.” Burin gestures for them to follow him. “I’ve had the best guest suite prepared for you, at the far end of the east wing. Carena can show you around.”
His wife, a severe-looking woman in a sumptuous gown and flawless makeup, leads them up the grand staircase. “I’ve been told the layout is a bit confusing,” she says. “But this is the fastest way between your suite and the main hall.”
