If you’re still taking prompts: Cassian x Jyn #20 đŸ˜Š

20: “You need to wake up because I can’t do this without you.”

It feels like Cassian barely got to sleep when there’s a hand on his shoulder. Everything hurts. He’s not sure he’s ever hurt quite so badly. “Wake up.”

Cassian doesn’t open his eyes. Sometimes if he pretends he isn’t awake, she leaves him alone.

Now is apparently not that time. “You need to wake up because I can’t do this without you.”

Cassian still doesn’t move. “Lie.”

“What?” Jyn sounds so offended he can’t help smiling a little.

“You’re lying,” he tells her. “You can do it without me. You just don’t want to.”

She makes the sort of snort that means she’s on her way to an explosion, and the mere thought of talking her down from that exhausts him even more. He rolls over and opens his eyes.

Jyn is glaring down at him, her hair falling out of her ponytail and a smudge of dust on her cheek. “You don’t get to get out of this just because you’re asleep.”

Cassian considers pointing out the number of boxes he carried, and how he only just got back from a week on one of his trips. But with Jyn this close to rage, it’s usually not worth it.

“I’m up,” he says instead, and does indeed sit up. It’s not an inspiring sight–he knows that he loved the apartment when they bought it, but right now it’s empty except for the mattress he was sitting in, an armchair Jyn’s for years, innumerable boxes, and the many panels and screws that presumably have Jyn so frustrated. What looks like half a table has already been put together, but she’s obviously stalled there. “How long have you been working on that?”

“Longer than I’m going to tell you,” she retorts, and takes his hand to pull him to his feet. He lets her, and manages not to groan at how it hurts. “You try.”

Cassian, through long years of training, manages not to smile at this imminently capable woman brought low by a furniture company. “And you think I can do better than you?”

“Stop fishing for compliments and make it work,” she demands.

Cassian looks at the furniture, at the tools spread out over the floor, and at Jyn, who’s fuming, and at their apartment–their apartment, the one they bought together. “Or,” he suggests, “We could call Kay, and he could put everything together instead, and we could sleep.”

Jyn’s brow furrows, then she grins, and lets him lie back down and bring her with him. “I knew I kept you around for something.”
