STAR WARS: EPISODE VI A NEW HOPE (1977) dir. George Lucas

The scene in which Grand Moff Tarkin and Leia Organa appear together on the Death Star, just before the destruction of the planet Alderaan, was the first scene with major dialogue that Carrie Fisher filmed for Star Wars. Peter Cushing consciously attempted to define their characters as opposite representations of good and evil, and the actor purposely stood in the shadows so the light shone on Fisher’s face. Fisher said she liked Cushing so much that it was difficult to act as though she hated Tarkin, and she had to substitute somebody else in her mind to muster the feelings. Although one of her lines referred to Tarkin’s “foul stench”, she said the actual actor smelled like “linen and lavender”.

For RebelCaptain Week, Day 2: Comfort

“What is this?”

Cassian regrets the question as soon as he says it–an occurrence that’s become much more common since he met Jyn Erso, it seems. He knows the second the words leave his mouth what will happen, and sure enough, Jyn’s jaw sets and she tenses defensively, ready to run or fight.

“It’s a coat.”
