“Jyn?” Cassian hovers in the doorway, hair tousled and in his eyes.
It seemed he was just as eager to rid himself of the gel in his hair as
of the horrible uniform, the way he made a beeline for the fresher as
soon as the shuttle had left the system.“Do you have a moment?”
His
eyes are still distant, tired, as if her mere presence is exhausting
him. He hasn’t bothered to say a damn word to her between the elevator
and now, all the way from that stupid party.“He speaks,” she
can’t keep herself from saying, but her voice doesn’t have as much bite
as she would like it to. She tugs her vest into place and gets to her
feet. “What’d I do this time?”

When you light a lantern and send it into the sky, you’re supposed to make a wish. I thought I wanted a promise that Peter and I would never hurt each other. I wanted something that doesn’t exist. I wanted happily ever after. But I know now that I don’t want a love in half measures. I want it all. And to have it all, we have to risk it all. If I could do it over, I wouldn’t change a thing. Because everything that’s happened has brought us here. This is our story. And we’re still at the beginning.
