i know it’s already been discussed and will continue to be discussed for decades, but i’m losing my shit over how masterful bong joon ho is with his recurring metaphor of the “line” that separates rich and poor. the father of the park family says this about the people he hires who dont know their place:
and in the scene in the gifset above you can see the housekeeper’s hesitation to literally cross the line, which she immediately gets back on the left side of.
some other examples of “the line,” usually represented through window frames:
when the peeing drunk “crosses the line,” ki-woo’s rich friend promptly yells at him to put him back in his place
ki-taek respectfully remains on his side of the line, playing the obedient driver to his boss
and during this scene near the midpoint of the film, the entire kim family is crossing the line by hanging out in their employers’ house, and ki-woo literally has his body between two worlds
anyway if this movie doesnt get best picture at the oscars i’m rioting
