They’ve met before, twice.

On a particularly boring day of wandering around Krennic’s penthouse, she spotted a young boy breaking into Krennic’s office. She heard the man was on his way back, so she did the one thing that made most sense to her – she helped the boy escape. Unbeknownst to Jyn, Cassian knew she was Erso Junior. He concluded his first espionage mission for the barely-formed Rebellion with a ‘thank you’ to a girl who had no reason to help him.

The second encounter – she was 15, he was 17.

Gone were the immaculate curls and pearl jewelries – she is now the best soldier in Saw Gerrera’s cadre, one of the most feared militants in the Galaxy. This time, she saw him lurking in the shadows of the rebel base on Crait, while Saw and Bail Organa try to reach a deal about coaxium supply. She caught a ghost of a smile on this familiar face, and she remembered. In the end, they spent three days together, shared an innocent kiss in a crystal cave, and parted ways without any promises.

After Saw left, there’s hardly any space left on Jyn’s mind for a boy. And for Cassian, he has accepted that Jyn is a phantom of a life he will never get to live.

That is, until her dossier came in, until he gave the rescue orders to the Pathfinders, until she landed, in handcuffs, on Yavin IV.

Somethings are meant to be.
