queen-haq:

The wonderful inkhearts made this for me and I’m kinda flailing right now because she used one of my favourite bits of dialogue from the fic.  Thank you so much, hun!

You, Ariadne, are the worst kind of distraction.
I can feel myself sinking, and I can’t get out. Do you know how terrifying that is?

Yes.

onlyaskeleton wanted to know my thoughts on Jeff/Annie from Community and how they’ve been handled since the season one finale.

Honestly? I think the writing of the show in general has gone downhill really quickly. It was up and down last season, too, but now it seems like the show is so self aware and Dan Harmon is so involved with fandom that the show is all meta and no heart. I feel like most comedies struggle after three or four seasons but it seems like Community has already lost its charm. Except for Troy. He always makes me laugh.

Now it could get better, and I hope it does, but this is just how I feel now.

As far as Jeff and Annie go, some ships are better left to the fans. This is one of them. Once the “Debate” episode aired and everyone went crazy for Joel and Alison’s chemistry, it was like the writers decided then that everyone was shippable with everyone else. And I while I loved the finale kiss and thought it was one of the best moments of the series, it still felt like it was handed to us shippers as a parting gift. I suspected that it wouldn’t go anywhere, and I hated the way Jeff treated Annie in the premiere enough to not even want them together. But I do still ship them, especially if Jeff ever gets his charm back and stops regressing to his earlier “doucheier than thou” self. They also need to stop regressing Annie into an immature teenager, because I feel like she should have grown more over the summer.

That said, I think they dropped the ball on Jeff/Britta, as well, even though I don’t ship them. I think they took a relationship that wasn’t working, started making fun of the fact that it wasn’t working, and just when people started to actually like them, turned them into a sitcom cliche. Now all ships have been dropped, it seems, which should be refreshing but just seems lazy.

Although I’m sure both storylines aren’t over, it doesn’t bode well for either of them that Annie only kissed Jeff to be cool and Britta only slept with him because she hates herself. Because women can never do anything just because they’re horny, it has to be for “crazy women reasons”.

But to directly address the question, I don’t think they’re handling it well at all. lol
