“I don’t think I could ever settle down.”
He raises his glass to his lips and asks before he drinks, “Not even with me?”
She clicks her tongue at him. “Mmm, I don’t know. You might get sick of me and leave.”
“Now why would anyone ever run away from you?”
(500) Days of Summer; 2009.
Tina Fey – Entertainment Weekly by Michael Lewis, May 7th 2004
“I’ve always loved the way you dismantle a bomb.”
“Now is not the time, Hunter. You can sexually assault me later, after we’ve saved the prime minister.”
He was gone. Rogue, they said. They wouldn’t tell her why, just that she should report to headquarters Monday morning for her partner reassignment.
But he wasn’t rogue, she knew that. He was missing. There was no way he would ever leave the job, leave her. (She wouldn’t let herself think of the other night, couldn’t let herself think of the other night.)
No. Something was wrong, she just didn’t know what.
But she knew she was going to find him.
They both stayed quiet until the head agent finished giving them their instructions, but he had seen the look of utter shock on her face when she was introduced to her new partner. He had enjoyed it immensely.
The agent leaves and she speaks first, as he knew she would. “Well. Long time no see, Kason.”
“Same to you, Isabel.”
“It’s Hunter, actually.”
“Oh right. Hunter. How intimidating.”
“I don’t need an intimidating name, Kason, I distinctly remember taking you down in training more than once. I think my skills are intimidating on their own.”
“Quite. I remember that day. You broke my arm. Couldn’t wank off properly for weeks. Maybe you could break my arm again, and give me a hand, partner.”
This was going to be fun.
“You’ve been gloomy all night, what’s wrong?” She grins and tugs at his coat, sliding a hand over his chest. “Need some cheering up?”
“What would you do if I was gone?”
Just like that her bright smile turns down. “What are you talking about?”
He sighs, shuffling his feet and burying his hands in his pockets. “You just can’t always depend on me, Hunter.”
She steps back, hurt. “Depend on you? Okay. Am I not the one who’s saved your arse oh about, a million times?”
“That’s not what this is about.”
“Then tell me what it is about, Nathaniel. You know what, nevermind. I’ll see you around.”
THIS IS SO PERFECT! DON’T STOP EVER.
Sweethearts
“Don’t doubt me, Hunter. I’ve never been the one running.”
(Paul Bettany as Kason Black, Billie Piper as Isabel Hunter, and David Tennant as Nathanial Torch.) When Torch goes rogue from SIS and from his love Isabel Hunter, Hunter becomes partners with Kason Black, a smug, unpredictable fellow spy from their academy days. As they work to track him down, the lines of truth and love blur and nothing seems to make sense.
