do you see how twelve is reacting here. do you see how clara is not immediately grabbing on to his hand, but holding hers out for him to make the choice on his own. do you see how, yes, she does hope for and want it because she’s scared and hurt and wants her friend, but he still has the option of just being like “nah” and it’s only after he makes a deliberate decision to hold her hand that he reaches out to her

consider what had just happened moments before: missy smashed him up against the wall to kiss him until he was basically collapsing with a look of horror on his face, asking if it was over. clara didn’t really know what to do about that, if anything, but she certainly knew not to just reach out and grab him.
