Because too much is made of her initial confused reactions and too little attention is given to her sheer outrage at the suggestion that she ever liked him for shallow reasons, and how she does just grab him after that whole conversation. 

Aaand his adorable awkwardness throughout; He does really want her to like him and stay with him, but he’s clumsy about that, moments of glorious snark aside.
