One of the thing that really struck me throughout season 8 is how often the Doctor looked for Clara’s help/aid/ support by initiating eye contact or simply just him signalling that he feels uncomfortable and only calms/collects himself after looking at Clara.

• i) time heist = “Oh is that why you call himself the doctor? The professional detachment?“ the first thing the Doctor does is to look at Clara before storming off and then turns back, makes his speech and looks at Clara again.

• ii) kill the moon = "Do you really think I’m not special?" The Doctor looks at Clara who bades him first by words and then by a silent and hard stare. 

• iii) dark waters = "We are just -" The Doctor feels very uncomfortably when Missy appears and looks at Clara who helps hom, though here there is no eye-contact. Clara is shocked and taken aback, but the Doctor collects himself after hearing her speak and watching her for a moment.
