also i’d like to point out that there would’ve been no reason for them to cut away after clara said “people like me and you should say things to each other” unless they both said ‘i love you.’ because, as the rule steven and rtd lived by, we should never know how the doctor feels. we never hear him say ‘i love you.’ we’ve seen clara say it to him before, and we’ve seen him almost say it to her, but this time – this moment – this was theirs and theirs alone and not for any of us to witness. they echoed it to each other. this entire episode was a love letter, a love song. the doctor had to forget her because he’d never have let her go otherwise. he’d have done anything for her, and he did, and it was enough.
