Jyn Appreciation Week / Day Four / Favorite Headcanon: Dreaming + Memory

Jyn’s memories and her dreams are tied together – maybe because of the kyber crystal her mother gave her, maybe because of some wider aspect of the Force, or maybe it’s just her way of processing trauma. Dreaming is tied up with memory for everyone, of course, but it’s not a clean reflection – it’s our memories tied in with our environment and our desires and anxieties. They aren’t always things you can trust. Jyn dreams about Lyra giving her something to hold onto, about Galen hugging her and telling her he’ll protect her, about Saw rescuing her from the darkness. And when she’s awake, she thinks these dreams are nothing more than her own imagination trying to give her what she wants. When she’s sleeping, though, she remembers the truth that she’s not ready to accept during daylight hours: she was loved, and is still loved.
