The Grim Reaper is a personification of Death, causing the death of someone by coming to collect them in most mythologies. Other beliefs hold that it’s purpose isn’t to kill but to sever the last ties between the soul and the body as well as guiding the deceased into the afterlife, without necessarily controlling when or how the victim dies. It’s popular depiction is of a skeleton wearing a black cloak and carrying a scythe, used to cut the tie between the soul and the body of a person.
